Sydney Stotter

Sydney entered the doctoral program in Slavic Languages and Literatures in the fall of 2022. Her research interests include the cultural production of memory in twentieth-century film and literature, literary modernism and postmodernism, and Soviet-Yugoslav cultural exchange. Her dissertation, Peripheral and Other Visions: Memory and Photography in Twentieth-Century Russian and Serbo-Croatian Literature, considers the intersection of visual and textual media in the creation of historical subjectivity.

Her essay “Within and Without the Frame: Ways of Seeing and Knowing in the Films of Sergei Parajanov” appears in Soviet Auteur Cinema After the Thaw (University of Wisconsin Press, 2027). 

She holds an A.B. in Russian from Bryn Mawr College (2017) and an A.M. in Russian, Eastern European, and Central Asian Studies from Harvard University (2022).
