2017 National Russian Essay Competition (NPSREC)

Congratulations to our students and teachers! We received 20 total awards (up from 16 last year) including 1 Silver Medal, 6 Bronze Medals, and 13 Honorable Mentions.

With 7 medalists and 20 total awards, Harvard continues its rivalry with Columbia University (8 medalists, 21 total awards — we’ve been neck and neck and switching places the past few years) for the highest number of medalists of all participating universities and highest number of overall recognitions including the Honorable Mentions. Following Columbia and Harvard were UCLA (7 medalists, 12 total awards), the Defense Language Institute (6 medalists, 13 total awards), Dartmouth College (5 medalists, 7 total awards), University of Maryland (4 medalists, 7 total awards), and Brigham Young University (3 medalists, 10 total awards).

The full announcement from ACTR is attached. That message describes the competition and levels and lists all of the winners from participating universities (53 award-winning universities, 195 total awards). Overall, there were 67 participating universities and 1,326 student competitors.
