The world renown filmmaker and book illustrator Jiri Trnka, the master of stop motion animation, brought to the screen works from Kosmas, Shakespeare, Chekhov, Hašek, and others. From tragedy to comedy, Trnka made adults appreciate puppets like nobody else. Discussion with Irena Kovarova will be complemented by examples from Trnka's films.

 

The event takes place on the occasion of the Massachusetts premiere screenings of the touring Jiri Trnka retrospective, Harvard Film Archive (Nov 24-Dec 7).
