We congratulate [Dr. Dmitrii Pastushenkov](https://slavic.fas.harvard.edu/people/dmitrii-pastushenkov), Preceptor in the Russian Language Program, and his co-authors Olesia Pavlenko (University of New Hampshire) and Dr. Curtis Green-Eneix (University of Nottingham Ningbo) on the publication of their study, [“TBLT and peer interaction beyond the traditional classroom: Exploring task engagement and its relationships with learners’ socioeconomic status,”](https://doi.org/10.1016/j.system.2025.103915) in the prestigious journal *System*. This is an open-access article, and we invite readers to share it widely.

The study examined how adult Russian-speaking learners of English outside academic settings engage in online communicative tasks and how socioeconomic background shapes this engagement. The findings demonstrate the potential of task-based language teaching beyond traditional classrooms, showing that communicative tasks promote metalanguage use and learner engagement, while highlighting the importance of designing authentic tasks that draw on learners’ experiences and sociodemographic backgrounds.
