We are pleased to congratulate third year graduate student Jemma Paek on the recent publication of her article "A Semiotic Analysis of the Canonical Image Macro Meme" in the journal *Semiotica*. The full text of Jemma's article can be found [here. ](https://www.degruyter.com/document/doi/10.1515/sem-2024-0005/html)

In Jemma's own words, her article *"proposes a semiotic reading of internet image macro memes (CIMMs), some of the most widespread and recognizable memes on the internet, and reads them as individual texts with their own system of signs. It puts forward an analysis of memes' first-order and second-order semiological systems and proposes a broad grammar of meme construction. Through an analysis of several interreferential memes, the paper also highlights how memes have begun to develop a codified metalanguage, consolidating what we might understand as a canon of memes."*
