On April 25th, Harvard students of Russian put on a spectacular performance of Aleksandr Blok’s “Балаганчик” (“The Fairground Booth”). Written in 1906, this tragicomic drama in verse draws on the traditions of commedia dell’arte and lampoons the absurdity of the Russian Symbolist milieu at the turn of the 20th century.
You can watch the performance by following the link below. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll wonder what in the world is going on!
This show was directed by Slavic graduate student Sarah Vitali.
